About Me

My name is Ashley Funderburk and I am a double major at Western Carolina University studying Communication- Public Relations and Music Education. I originally came to WCU as a Music Education major, but found PR along the way (it’s a long story for another day). What can I say, it was love at first sight!

Of course being a student is not enough for me, so I am a member of our PRSSA Chapter. I joined the Chapter in September 2009, became the PR Jobs and Internship Director and a paid member in January 2010 and served as the Chapter Vice President from April 2010- April 2011. Along with being involved with WCU PRSSA, I have been heavily involved with Catamount Communications, the student-run PR firm at WCU. I started out as a staff member in January 2010 and worked my way to Firm Director by April 2010 and recently ended my term as Firm Director in October 2011. I was sad to go, but I know the Firm is in great hands.

I recently added Music Education back into my already busy schedule, so I have been focusing a lot of time and effort into this, seeing that I am only four short classes away from completing my PR degree. My plans after graduation are still up in the air, but I would love to be able to teach and do some freelance PR on the side.

I am very passionate about music, research, writing, campaigns, event planning, social media, public speaking and working as a team member. Motivation is my middle name! Okay, you got me. Marie is my real middle name.

Reese cups are my weakness. Music has my heart, along with my family and amazing friends. Did I mention I LOVE coffee? Oh, and black and white pictures are my favorite.
